I'm new to the church

Our English service meets every Sunday from 8.30-10.15am, and our Mandarin service meets on the same day in the evenings, from 7.30-9.30pm.

You can find our location here.

At Kuching Evangelical Church, you can expect a friendly welcome. We want you to come as you are and to find out more about yourself! Perhaps you are new to church and not quite sure what to expect at a Christian gathering or meeting. We try to take away some of the fear factor by letting you know what to expect.

What you can expect

There is parking available both inside the church compound as well as the Sarawak Society for the Deaf, which is just next door.

Our main goal is that you would feel comfortable and welcome when you visit, rather than worrying about a dress code. For your reference, many of our church family will be dressed smart casually.

Our services normally last about 90 minutes or so.

There will be a time of singing usually lasting about 25-30 minutes (both hymns and contemporary Christian songs). There will also be an “offering” (see next question), some announcements and notices to let you know what’s going on in the life of the church, and prayers.

At the centre of our service is the Bible reading and teaching. This is a talk which will usually explain and apply a passage/story from the Bible. We believe God’s Word alone transforms lives, so we are utterly committed to the exposition of God’s Word

During the service, there is usually an offering bag passed around. This time of giving is for our regular members. The Bible teaches that Christians are to commit to a local church, and give towards supporting the work of the gospel. If you are a guest or only visiting, there is absolutely no obligation to give.

We have a creche operating for ages 0-3, which will have a change table, a breastfeeding corner and a play area. There is a speaker linked in from which the sermon will be broadcast.

There is also a Sunday School for those starting from age 3-12. You can find out more about our Sunday School here.

There will be refreshments available, and we hope you will find many regular members getting to know you more. In the near future, we will have a “Newcomers Corner” section set up, where you can also get to know us and find out more information.
